In the kingdom of Illea, the people decide their next queen through the Selection, where 35 girls from different castes compete for the heart of the famous Prince Maxon. One of those chosen is America Singer, part of the artist caste, who doesn’t care about the life she leads, but worries about her relationship with Aspen, her neighbor and part of a caste below her own. With her strong and independent personality, America divides the opinion of the population, causing intrigue, unraveling mysteries about her own nation, and being confused about what she feels.
This is my favorite book in two years and perfect for those who find comfort in romance with a dash of adventure and mystery. Part of a collection of five other books, The Selection brings its readers the ability to think critically, to accept being confused about your feelings, and above all, the ability not to lose your originality and authenticity in situations between people who are different from you. People who have already read A Thousand Heartbeats, also by Kiera Cass, may well like this book too.
The constant wave of emotions and the desperation to know what will happen next are things I always look for in the books I read and I found them the minute I started reading this book. I recommend it to those who are looking for the ability to fall in love with the characters through how they act, think and are, making The Selection one of the books worth reading.
