Libraries of Middlesex Automation Consortium (LMxAC) is a nonprofit membership organization that provides a wide range of services to its member libraries. Westfield is one of nearly 40 participating libraries in Middlesex, Monmouth, and Union counties and Middlesex College.
LMxAC provides many benefits to Westfield Memorial Library patrons, including:
- Shared Catalog. You can search and browse the holdings of Westfield and all LMxAC member libraries in one place.
- Shared Books and Other Materials. You can place items on hold from all LMxAC member libraries and have them delivered to Westfield in as little as a few days.
- In-Person Access. You can use your valid resident Westfield library card to borrow materials at all LMxAC member libraries
Frequently Asked Questions
Does LMxAC replace MURAL?
No. Westfield is a member of both LMxAC and MURAL. LMxAC makes it easier for patrons of member libraries to access LMxAC member libraries. However, patrons of non-LMxAC libraries that are members of MURAL can still access Westfield Memorial Library through the MURAL program.
Can I register or renew my library card at any LMxAC library?
No. Patrons of LMxAC member libraries must register or renew their library card through their home library. For Westfield residents this would be the Westfield Memorial Library.
Can I renew my books or other items at any LMxAC library?
Yes! Items that are eligible for renewal can be renewed at any LMxAC library.
Does LMxAC have a mobile app?
Yes! LMxAC has a mobile app for Apple and Android devices called LMxPRESS PLUS. The app can be used to place holds, manage your account, store a digital copy of your library card, and more.
Do Westfield patrons have priority when reserving Westfield’s books?
Yes! Westfield’s items will only be sent to another library if a Westfield patron does not have a hold on it.
What library should I select when I log-in to Libby by Overdrive?
You will no longer select Westfield. Instead you will select Libraries of Middlesex Automation Consortium.
I see results in the catalog for streaming videos through Kanopy, but Westfield is not listed. Does Westfield still have access to Kanopy?
Yes! Westfield’s Kanopy records are temporarily not displaying in the catalog, but you can browse Westfield’s Kanopy content through the Kanopy app or website.
When I look up a book and it is checked out is there a way to see when it is due back or whether there are holds on it?
The item status will display whether or not a book is checked in, checked out, or on hold. The item status will not display the due date of each copy. However, you can place the item on hold and you will receive the next available copy from any library.
How can I find out where I am on the hold list for an item?
The public catalog does not display this information, but you can ask a librarian and they can tell you your position on the hold list.
