In a dystopian future, a virtual reality game called Warcross has taken over the economy and the lives of most of the population. Master hacker, Emika Chen, lives in her small apartment struggling to make ends meet, when an eviction notice appears on her front door. But all that changes when she tries to snatch one of the power-ups within an Official Warcross game, and accidentally glitches into the game. Sheās quickly escorted to Tokyo to meet with the founder of Warcross, Hideo Tanaka. Surprisingly, Tanaka tells Emika that thereās a hacker, and sheās the only one who can stop them. Emika is entered into the Official Warcross Championship and uncovers the truth.
I really liked how this book showed the dark web and what happens in the dark side of the internet. I did not like how this book portrayed Tanaka, the wealthy CEO, as a godlike figure. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to young adults who like dystopian fiction. There is also a second book in the Warcross series. I would give this book 5 stars out of 5.
