Join us on Saturday, March 26, 2022, for New Jersey Makers Day at Westfield Memorial Library! Events will include demonstrations and hands-on activities for children and adults. Sponsored by Friends of the Westfield Memorial Library.

3D House Paper Circuit Workshop (For Children) 10:00am
Decorate a one-of-a-kind paper house and then put on your electrician cap as you wire it to light up! A LED light, conductive copper tape, and a coin cell battery are used to create a simple circuit as we learn about the flow of electricity. Location: virtual or in-person in meeting room.
Bristlebots Workshop (For Children) 10:00am
The head of a toothbrush, pipe cleaners, and a small battery and motor are all used to make these fun little moving bots. We’ll see how experimenting with the placement of components effects the bot’s movement while we learn about potential and kinetic energy. Once your bot is in racing shape, you can run it through a maze and try to beat your best time! Location: virtual or in-person in meeting room.
Knitting without Needles Workshop (For Adults) 10:00am -12:00pm
Anyone can knit without needles in one easy step using a new technique with loop yarn. Loop yarn has pre-formed loops and all you have to do is lay the yarn out in front of you and pull one loop through another. You can make scarves, blankets, hats as well as many other projects. Get looped into finger knitting and learn how to work with this easy and super soft yarn and start creating today! Location: 2nd floor.

Take-Home Mystery Bag (For Children) Any time beginning March 21
For those of you seeking a way to take part in Makers Day remotely, each of these bags contains a surprise activity or craft to celebrate Makers Day at home. This is an activity you can do freely on your own schedule and does not include any guided videos or tutorials. Add spare materials or components that you have at home to make a unique work-of-art. You will be prompted to indicate desired level of complexity when you register, as we have a variety of items to offer. Once you sign up, your bag will be available to pick-up starting the next day. What will you make with your mystery bag?!
